There was an amazing debut by Kilmeedy native Gerard Cremin at the World Athletics Masters Finals held in Budapest, Hungry at the weekend of 30th March 2014. Gerard reached the semi finals in his speciality event, the high hurdles. His time of 8.97 seconds in the 60 metre hurdles was the second fastest ever run by an Irishman in the over 35 competition.
Just to cap off the weekend the boy from Ballinruane was on the Irish 200 metre relay team who finished eight in the World setting a new Irish record.
As a youngster Gerard was very successful in Community
Games athletics and in recent years has given us great help in
Feenagh/Kilmeedy. Our own youngsters have started back training for cross country, meeting at Feenagh G.A.A. pitch on Sundays from 6-7 p.m. Perhaps Gerard will call in for a chat some day , this dedicated and modest sportsman is an inspiration to us all.
