The boys who did the double
‘For the Junior hurlers and footballers, County Champions 2003’
Come listen to my story
Of a parish steeped in fame
From Corran o’er to Highmount
And to those who play their games.
Sure I know you’ve heard of the great players
And the matches they did play
Well we loved those people that are gone
And now we’ve got the heroes here today.
Chorus
If you want to know their secret folks
It’s just they never gave up.
So here’s to all in Feenagh-Kilmeedy
Who lifted the parish up.
Let us start then with the small ball
Thats played here for so long
They got to this year’s final
And the team were hurling strong.
Sure Newcastle West had never seen
A crowd like it before
We cheered so loud for each score that went up
As the boys in blue beat Ballyagran to win the County Cup
All the years of near misses
Were left on the field that day
And then people started asking
Could the footballers have their say
It was the week of the County Final
And the press all said they’d fall
But the selectors got that paper in Drum
And they stuck it to the wall
When they took the field that day
The team they were well set
And with the lightning start they made,
Sure they had Castlemahon bate.
Chorus
If you want to know their secret folks
It’s just they never gave up.
So here’s to all in Feenagh-Kilmeedy
Who lifted the parish up.
If I live to be a hundred years
In my mind’s eye I’ll see,
The hard working people and players
Who did the the double in 2003.
There was Coughlan and Cremin, Coleman and the O’Connors,
Gaffney, Geary and Gilbourne and the Galvin boys too,
All the Lynchs and Murphys, O’Flynn and the Irwins,
O’Sullivans and Kiely who all wore the blue.
And now my song is over
So it’s time we had a sup,
So raise your glass to Feenagh-Kilmeedy
Ye have lifted the parish up!
