Death:

The death occurred on Saturday October 10th at Milford Care Centre of Fr. Brendan Murphy PE, Newcastle West. His removal was from Reidy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West on Tuesday for Mass in Feenagh Church and burial afterwards in the Church Grounds.

The late Fr Brendan Murphy was Parish Priest of Feenagh Kilmeedy 2004 to 2014. On his retirement he was appointed assistant in Newcastle West. Prior to that he was CC in Ballybrown from 1990 to 2004. He always held a great wish for the people of Ballybrown and its GAA. When he came to our Parish he got acquainted and settled in well and was most popular and friendly with parishioners while doing his daily ministry. He was a great supporter of the GAA. He held a great love for his native Tipperary. He was a Nenagh native and was ordained for SMA in 1962 and he spent seventeen years in the Foreign Missions. He took up an appointment in the Limerick Diocese in 1979 as CC in St Munchins, for eleven years he attended St Flannan’s College Ennis, Killaloe Diocesan College. Two of his brothers were priests in the diocese, both now deceased, one was PP in Broadford, Co Clare and the other PP in Sixmilebridge, Co Clare. He was a talented hurler in his college days with St Flannan’s. Also in that team was Tipperary and Munster’s great hurler Donie Nealon. He was was also a great 45 Drive Card player. He had a great friend in Canon Fran Duhig, Fr Edwin Irwin, Fr Joseph Dempsey RIP, Fr David Browne, Fr Thomas Coughlan and Fr Joseph Kennedy.

We celebrate the life of a most popular priest with 58 years of ministry.

Sympathy is extended to his nephews, nieces and entire family, Bishop Brendan Leahy, priests of the other dioceses and parishioners.

Fr Brendan Murphy is the first parish priest buried in Feenagh Church ground since Colmanswell native Canon Jeremiah O Gorman in 1941. The reason was that Kilmeedy Church was under repair at the time.
