Population of parish 1805, of village 167. District principally meadow and pasture, including some large dairy farms, some profitable bog, and about one thousand acres of mountain land, consisiting chiefly of siliceous grit, of which there are some good quarries. The low lands are based on limestone. There are extensive brown sandstone quarries in the immediate vicinity of the village which are largely used for building and other purposes.
