Kilmeedy Vintage Group
Kilmeedy and Feenagh parishes have a large and growing number of vintage enthusiasts, who are actively involved in the vintage scene. Kilmeedy Vintage Group was formed in 2009. It aims to support the preservation and display of vintage items, such as cars, tractors, trucks, motorbikes, stationary engines, cast iron seats, tools and other such items from bygone days.
The group hold 2 events each year.
The vintage rally is normally held in June in a field near Kilmeedy village. Vintage enthusiasts from the locality and further afield gather to display their vintage pride and joy. Enthusiasts often spend many long hours doing restorations, which usually involve dismantling, cleaning, tracking down missing parts, reconditioning and painting, so that their item is brought back to its former glory. There are also side shows for all the family.
The vintage road run is normally held in November. Cars, tractors, trucks and motorbikes gather in Kilmeedy before setting off on a drive around the locality, typically lasting 1 to 2 hours.
Both events are social gatherings for those with an interest in vintage items, and a great chance for people to chat and reminisce about items and characters from the past, when things were done in a different way.
The group get a lot of help from local sponsors, for which it is very thankful. The funds raised from these events are donated to Aras Ide and local charities.
