Kilmeedy Road Race
The first thing we must do is to thank all our volunteers and helpers
who assist us each year of the road race. Without their help it would
not be possible to run this event. Also thanks to all the runners and
walkers who continue to support us. The winners of this years Kilmeedy
race have also supported us over the past five years. Declan Moore
from Bilbao Athletic Club was winner of the mens race and Loretto
Duggan of Clare club Kilmurry Ibricken is our women’s champion. Moore
is in great form and made his move to the front very early and leas
the race just after passing the Vintage Rally field on the Castlemahon
Road. By the time he reached Belville, Moore had a thirty second lead,
this stretched to a forty seven winning margin in an excellent 26:56
for the five mile course. Vinnie O’Brien of Limerick A.C. battled hard
for second in 27:43. Ballyhoura organiser Tom Blackburn of Moreabbey
Milers was third with Maurice Feehan of Gneeveguilla in Kerry in
fourth place. Clarewoman Loretto won the womens race in a time of
34:05. Host club West Limerick supplied second and third places in
Paula Collins 35:07 and Carmel MacDomhnaill 35:42. The other womens
winners were Siobhan O’Brien of North Cork in the over 40 race.
Kathryn Hogan of Moreabbey Miles won the over 45 and Bridgid Falehee
from Newcastle West was victorious in the over 50 section. Our junior
champions (under 19) were both from North Cork A.C. so well done to
Eimear Lenihan and Conor Galvin (Tom’s son). The mens masters section winners were
Dave Cahill West Limerick in over 40, Mike Cunningham, Moreabbey
Milers O/45, Larry O’Grady, Bilbao O/50 and John Brady North Cork
O/55. Finally it was great to see so many young lads from Feenagh
Soccer Club running the 5 miles. We really appreciate your support and
thanks to Barry Gilbourne for organising them.
