Division 1 League Cup Quarter Final: Feenagh 7 Rathkeale B 4
A cold and dreary afternoon was lit up by the footballers of Feenagh and Rathkeale B in this goalfest. Rathkeale took an early lead before a deft Ger O’ Gorman header from a Ronan Gilbourne free kick brought us level. We went ahead when a good ball over the top from Ger released Luke Ryan who centred for John O’Gorman to finish. John made it 3-1 at half time after he seized on Thomas O’Sullivan’s parried shot to finish to the net. There were further chances at either end during a very open half including an effort from Kevin Moore who latched onto a Gilbourne free kick but saw his effort saved.
After the interval there was no let up both in terms of chances being created and goals being scored. Rathkeale scored early in the second half before Billy O’Sullivan converted a penalty after John had been pushed in the back attempting to meet a Diarmuid Coleman cross. 4-2 quickly became 4-3. The Old Firm of Gilbourne and Timmy Lynch combined to make it 5-3, with another accurate set piece delivery from Gilbourne, this time by way of a corner kick, being headed home by the unmarked Lynch. The visitors again responded and Mike Keogh then made a good save to ensure we stayed ahead. The impressive Ryan then scored a fine solo effort before Thomas completed the scoring with a tap in after a centre from man of the match Ryan.
