Ferry Rangers 3 Feenagh 2
Feenagh headed to Tarbert knowing that a win could land them the under 12 Division 3 crown or at worst consign them into a playoff to decide who would be champions. Feenagh played with the aid of the breeze at their backs in the opening half and created the more clearcut openings. Ronan O’Connor was first up to test the home keeper with a shot from outside the box. The next chance fell Lee Madigan’s way. A corner was cleared to Iain Kelly on the edge of the box and his shot at goal was re-directed goalwards by Madigan but to Ferry’s relief, it was straight at the keeper. The visitors took the lead midway through the half. A cross from Liam Power was controlled by Ronan O’Connor who shielded his opponent from the ball before slotting it coolly into the bottom corner of the net. 1-0 to Feenagh. O’Connor set up Madigan afterwards but the cross came at him quickly and he shot over. Ferry were threatening at the other end from set pieces and a last ditch tackle from Dylan Murray-O’Connor prevented their striker getting a shot at goal. 1-0 to Feenagh at half time. Ferry equalised soon after the resumption but Feenagh regained their lead when a Madigan cross was swept home by O’Connor. Cue delirium on and off the pitch. Good defensive play from Eoin Galvin and David Boyce kept Ferry at bay but the home side did eventually equalise and then scored what proved to be the winner. The Feenagh players can hold their heads high after a fine season. If this group of players can stick together there is every chance that they can land some silverware in the coming seasons.
