Feenagh 3 Newcastle Rovers 2
The 10s penultimate league game saw their recent good form continue as they recorded a 3-2 home win last Thursday evening. The first sight of goal for the home team arrived when a nice through ball from Tomás Galvin released Jamie O’Doherty, who shot straight at the keeper. Feenagh should have opened the scoring a few minutes later when a corner lead to a goalmouth scramble which Rovers were relieved to emerge from unscathed. Tomás Galvin had already tested the Rovers keeper with a long range free kick and he made no mistake with his second effort which arrowed into the bottom corner of the net to put the blues one to the good. One quickly became two as Ruairí O’Connor showed good awareness to anticipate a Rovers move and intercept a pass before finishing emphatically to the net to make it 2-0 and this remained the score until the interval.
Ruairí was again on the mark after the interval with another good finish to restore the two goal advantage after Rovers had pulled a goal back. Tomás had another few efforts narrowly wide in the second period before Rovers claimed a second but Feenagh saw out time and claimed the win. Some fine performaces on the evening but Thomas Ryan at centre half gets the vote for player of the match for a commanding performance.
